History and literature have been intertwined though the ages, not only as subject or reference, but also as critical focus, appraisal, revisionism, political statement or consolatory refuge. This conference aims at attracting papers that look at literature engaging with alternative historical framings and the multiplicity of links between history and literature: the intertwining, the opposition, the reliance, the synchronicity, the disjunction or simply the influence, between the two. Although the focus of the conference is on Italian literature in general, papers in other literary traditions are also invited.

Presentations can be made in either Italian or English and must be between 15 and 20 minutes. The areas of study suggested, but not restricted to, are:

  • Sicilians in the World, the World in Sicily
  • The Historical Novel as Genre
  • Neo-Historical Fiction
  • Historical Writing and Postmodernism
  • Revisionist Historicism in Film/Television/Opera/Drama Romance and Popular Literature
  • Sociology of Literature
  • Reception Studies
  • Historical Fantasy
  • Historical Linguistics
  • Hagiography, Biography, Autobiography
  • History and Gender Identity

Deadline for abstracts is October 31, 2018. Please send your proposals, of a maximum of 300 words, to any of the recipients below:
